I unfortunately did not have a very pleasant experience with Miami Family Law. I retained them to do a prenuptial agreement and a domestication of a birth certificate. I informed them not to work on the birth certificate until I was ready. After two meetings for the prenuptial agreement with my attorney Kent I noticed that my retainer was drying up rather quickly so I started paying more attention to what I was being billed for. After reviewing my billing statements I found that I was being billed for a lot of work when I hadn’t even completed turning over my financial documents. After $5,000 of the retainer was spent on a prenup that was nowhere near completed I asked to have all work put on hold, and then I had to leave the country as I was having another child. After I came back to the U.S. I once again reviewed my billing statements and found that I had charges billed to me for strategizing on how to keep me as a client, conferences that I did not attend for the domestication of a birth certificate (which I had never asked to start working on), and $30 charges for a one sentence email asking if I was ready to continue with my case. When I initially asked for the retainer back I was told it was in a trust and that I would only be able to access the funds by using the firm for services. After finding out that I should be able to get my retainer back I called again, and I’m still waiting for it.

They fought for me, and got me the best outcome that I think was possible given the circumstances. Quite frankly, it was significantly more costly than I had expected, but the fact is that things simply are that way now, especially in this sphere of activity. Special shout out to attorney Kent Root, who really took great care of me and demonstrated that I was more than just a case number to him; he made me feel like a real person, and that this life-changing event for me was important and serious to him, not just blowing smoke. Also to Kristine, who went to bat for me on more than one occasion, and solved issues when I needed it most, and couldn’t do anything otherwise; good folks, and God bless ‘em for it.
